Ricky Ponting rumored to snag new coaching role in Major League Cricket Edition 2
Former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting revealed that he has had coaching contracts from the US-based T20 franchise League. Notably, the former Australian coach, who is currently in charge of the Delhi Capitals’ coaching staff in the Indian Premier League, disclosed that he has been in contact with a Major League Cricket (MLC) team for the Washington Freedom club.
Meanwhile, the MLC is a T20 franchise league that aims to increase cricket popularity in the USA. Notably, MI New York emerged victorious against the Seattle Orcas to claim the trophy in the inaugural edition of MLC 2023.
The legendary cricketer, however, accepted that he hasn’t finalised anything from his side as of now. In addition, the 49-year-old cricketer affirms that there is no off-season for the cricketers, and they have a hectic schedule every day.
“We’re not there yet, I haven’t committed to anything just yet, but I’ve had some initial discussions (with Washington). The time of the year sort of fits in okay for me, but I’ve got a hectic off-season again. When I say off-season, there’s no such thing as an off-season for cricketers anymore,” Ricky Ponting said on SEN.
I’m not doing that, where does MLC fit in?: Ricky Ponting
Ricky Ponting reveals that he might comment during the T20 World Cup 2024, and MLC Edition 2 is set to take place just after the marquee event. Moreover, the former batting legend says that he loves doing the coaching job, and he always tries to get the best from the players so that they can win the game.
“It’s potentially another big year away if I want it, so there are things I’ve got to work through. If I’m going to be commentating on the T20 World Cup or not and if I’m not doing that, where does MLC fit in? I love the coaching side of it. I love working with the best players in the world and trying to find a way to make them better, and winning some games along the way,” he added further.
