‘I don’t care who wins the final’ – South Africa coach Rob Walter makes shocking claim after 3 wicket loss in ODI World Cup 2023 semi-final clash vs Australia
The South African cricket team suffered a three-wicket loss to Australia in the second semi-final clash of the ODI World Cup 2023 on November 16 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Notably, the loss knocked the Proteas out of the tournament despite their great and magnificent performance on the league stage. However, following the loss, South Africa head coach Rob Walter looked very disappointed in the post-match conference.
The 48-year-old head coach claims that he will not watch the final match between India and Australia. In addition, Walter further says that he doesn’t care which team wins in the showdown. However, the former South African cricketer backs Team India to win the trophy owing to their fantastic performances in the league stage.
“To be honest, there is a 1% chance I would be watching. To be even more brutally honest, I don’t care (who wins). But it is great for the home team to win the World Cup and over the past eight weeks we have seen the kind of support there is for the India team. And they have been the best side in the competition,” Rob Walter said at the press conference.
Guys are gutted now but they know they have left everything out there: Rob Walter
Rob Walter feels that their side has given some great performances in the marquee event. Walter is extremely happy, as they posted the most historic total in ODI World Cup history in their opening clash against Sri Lanka. In addition, the legendary cricketer reveals that their side is gutted by the loss.
“If you think about the cricket we played over the past eight weeks, it was memorable. And the more players have such experiences the more they get excited about their cricket. I think we surprised some people in this room and around the world. We have had world records, dominated teams and different people have put their hands up at different times. Guys are gutted now but they know they have left everything out there,” he added further.
