Sachin Tendulkar’s milestones that remain unsurpassable by Virat Kohli

Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli are two of the biggest names Indian Cricket has produced in the last fifty years. Both the players have got huge laurels for India and won a lot of accolades with their batting.

Virat Kohli on Thursday scored his 48th ODI century during the ODI World Cup 2023 game against Bangladesh. The century in Pune puts the 34-year-old just one century away from Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI tons.

When we speak about cricketing records there are many records set by Sachin Tendulkar that could be broken. But these records may just be beyond the reach of Virat Kohli despite his tall talents.

Most matches for any individual player

Sachin Tendulkar played a total of 664 international matches in his career. The Indian legend is the only player to feature in 200 test matches. The 50-year-old has also played 463 ODI matches and one T20I game for India.

Virat Kohli on the other hand has played 511 games for India so far and is 153 matches behind Sachin Tendulkar. The 34-year-old Kohli has played 111 test matches along with 285 ODI games and 115 T20I matches.

After the end of the ODI World Cup 2023 one may expect Kohli to rest himself a lot more. This would make the 664 games played mark difficult to break for the current Indian run machine.

Test and ODI runs aggregate

Virat Kohli has a total of 8676 runs from his 111 test matches and is yet to reach the 10,000 run mark. During his peak scoring form the 10,000 run mark was just an afterthought. That though did not happen due to Kohli’s poor run scoring in the test format for three years.

Sachin Tendulkar has scored 15,921 runs from his 200 test matches for India. This record may prove to be beyond the reach of Virat Kohli. Even in the ODI format, Sachin Tendulkar has 18.426 runs.

Virat Kohli on the other hand has 13,342 which is 5084 runs away from the Master Blaster. With the lesser amount of ODI matches played and Kohli preserving himself this record too may prove to be beyond him.

Most fours in Test and ODI cricket

In his illustrious 24-year career for India Sachin Tendulkar set the tone for many of India’s wins. In his 200 test matches for India, the former Indian legend has hit 2058 fours and 2016 fours in ODI cricket.

Virat Kohli on the other hand has hit 966 fours in test cricket and just 1247 fours in ODI cricket. It may take a long while for Virat Kohli to catch up to the numbers set by the great Sachin Tendulkar.

Test match centuries and fifties in each format

Sachin Tendulkar retired from cricket with 51 test centuries and 68 half-centuries. Kohli on the other hand has scored 29 centuries and an equal number of fifties. In the ODI format, Kohli has 68 fifties compared to the 96 scored by the great Indian master blaster.

Total cricket career span

Sachin Tendulkar made his cricket debut at the age of 16 and played his last game at the age of 24. His career spanned for exactly 24 years till his retirement in Mumbai in 2013 against the West Indies. This one record is surely beyond the reach of Virat Kohli. if the former Indian skipper has top reach that mark he has to play cricket till his mid-40s.
