‘He becomes a normal bowler…..’ – Former Pakistan’s skipper slams Shaheen Afridi for his poor outings in ODI World Cup 2023

Pakistan star pacer Shaheen Afridi failed to make his impact in the ODI World Cup 2023. Notably, the Men in Green have won their two games out of three and currently place themselves in the fourth spot in the points table. The 23-year-old pacer just had four wickets to his name from three outings and is currently facing criticism for his poor performances in the ongoing marquee event.

Notably, the young Pakistani cricketer was the one who dismantled India’s batting line-up during the 2021 T20 World Cup held in Dubai and guided their side to a remarkable 10-wicket win over their traditional rivals, India. Moreover, the great seamer also dismantled Team India’s top order during the group stages of the Asia Cup 2023 but failed to mark his impact in the Super Fours of the Asia Cup 2023 as well as the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023.

Meanwhile, Babar Azam and Co. won their opening game against the Netherlands; however, the left-arm pacer remains wicketless against the frail team of the ODI World Cup 2023. Notably, the Pakistan team registered a historic win over Sri Lanka, where the great bowler just got two wickets. Moreover, Shaheen Afridi failed to make an impression against Team India during the third game of the ODI World Cup 2023 and faced a heavy loss.

Shaheen Afridi has the potential and is mentally very strong: Salman Butt

Following the same incident, former Pakistani skipper Salman Butt gave advice to Shaheen Afridi and talked about his weaknesses. The batting stalwart feels Pakistan’s young bowler is extremely good in the first three four overs; however, he could not continue that spirit later. The 39-year-old cricketer also backs him, calling him a very strong person who can become a complete bowler for his side.

“He is one of the best bowlers in the world with the new ball, especially in the first three or four overs. But when you see his second and third spells, I think he needs to learn a lot. He is not the same bowler and becomes a normal bowler once the ball gets older. He has the potential and is mentally very strong. So, there is every chance of him becoming a very, very good and complete bowler,” Salman Butt said.
