‘Shami is not as professional as Bumrah..’- Indian veteran cricketer makes huge statement ahead of Australia series
India won the two-match Test series against Bangladesh 2-0 after Shreyas Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin guided the team to a 3-wicket win in the second Test on Sunday. With that, they have kept their hopes alive for taking part in the World Test Championship final.
India’s next important assignment is a four-match home Test series against Australia and they can only afford to lose one match in the series if they want to secure a place in the WTC final.
The fitness of some of the key players will remain one of the biggest talking points ahead of the series. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, M Shami, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja didn’t participate in the Test series against Bangladesh due to their respective injuries.
Meanwhile, Dinesh Karthik reckons that Jasprit Bumrah will be fit to play the Test series against Australia. However, he feels that Mohammed Shami might miss out as he ‘isn’t as professional as Bumrah when it comes to training’.
“For Shami, it’s a big question, because he is somebody who is probably not as professional as Bumrah when it comes to training. He has had an injury and he’s been injury-struck for some time,” said Karthik on Cricbuzz.
Over the last couple of years, Indian players are frequently getting injured and the National Cricket Academy is often held responsible for the same. Shedding light on the same, Karthik said,
“The whole Indian backups have been injured over a period of time for some strange reason. The Indian team and NCA need to align themselves towards how they are going to plan in making sure the players stay fit over a period of time,”
India will next be playing a white-ball series against Sri Lanka, starting from 3rd January 2023. The series will begin with three T20Is, scheduled to be played on 3rd, 5th, and 7th January 2022.
