Shreyas Iyer fails to perform in Ranji Trophy semi-finals against Tamil Nadu
In the ongoing Ranji Season, Shreyas Iyer has failed to perform in the semi-final match against Tamil Nadu on Sunday. His series of poor form continues as he scored just three runs. Iyer came down to bat at No. 4 after the dismissal of Ajinkya Rahane. Moreover, a lot of cricketers have extended their support towards Iyer and have expected him to score and shut down his haters. However, the Tamil Nadu’s pacer, Sandeep Warrier dismissed the batter in just eight balls.
Iyer was in his peak form while playing the ODI World Cup 2023 where he had scored 530 runs in 11 matches, at an average of 66.25. He played some match-winning knocks which helped India win matches from crucial stages. He was the seventh-highest run-scorer in the tournament and provided a balance to the team. Moreover, he scored two centuries and three half-centuries in the tournament.
During the World Cup, Iyer became the first middle-order batter to score more than 500 runs in a single World Cup edition. Apart from this, he was also the first batter to score the fastest century in World Cup knockouts in just 70 balls. However, red-ball cricket hasn’t been that great for Iyer yet.
Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan are out of the central contract
The Indian Cricket Board has not included Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan in the central contract list which was released recently. Ishan has been away from cricket for a long time. Post the ODI World Cup, Kishan hasn’t participated in any series starting with the South Africa tour. He had opted out of the South Africa series due to mental fatigue. However, he never returned after that.
Moreover, he didn’t keep the officials in the loop and that’s why he was excluded from the list. Shreyas Iyer had a different experience though. He was dropped from the Test squad after the second Test match and was asked to play Ranji Trophy. However, he faked his back injury and didn’t participate in the domestic tournament. That’s how the rift began for Iyer.
