WATCH: Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar makes special appearance to announce Shreyas Iyer as ‘best fielder’ against Sri Lanka

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar made a special appearance to announce Shreyas Iyer as the best fielder during their ODI World Cup 2023 clash against Sri Lanka on November 2 at the iconic Wankhede Cricket Stadium in Mumbai. Notably, local boy Shreyas Iyer took back the medal from KL Rahul, who won it in the clash against England in Lucknow.

The legendary cricketer made this announcement through the video call, following which all the players erupted in great joy. Notably, India’s middle-order batsman, Shreyas Iyer, played a crucial role in guiding India towards the massive win as he went on to pile up 82 runs from 56 balls, which helped them cross the mark of 350 runs at his native ground.

Speaking about the game, the home team posted a massive total of 357/8 in the given 50 overs owing to fantastic knocks from Shreyas Iyer and the great partnership between Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli, which helped them post a massive total against Sri Lanka. However, during the chase, the Kusal Mendis side could only manage 55 runs before getting all out and helping Team India qualify for the semis.

I could settle for a while and then play my shots: Shreyas Iyer

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer was ecstatic after his great knock in Mumbai, and he shared his happiness during the mid-inning break. The 28-year-old batsman reveals that the wicket was too good to bat with some extra bounce in the game. In addition, the KKR skipper also lauded the partnership between Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill.

“I think it was a pretty good wicket to bat, the ball was coming on and there was some nice bounce. I could settle for a while and then play my shots. It was magnificent to watch (the partnership between Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli), and the way they took the singles, twos and boundaries, they laid the platform for us. We were told that the oddball was stopping and holding a bit, so it was a good partnership that they had and it helped us later on,” Shreyas Iyer said.
