India’s star cricketer Shubman Gill is set to miss their second clash of the ODI World Cup 2023 against Afghanistan, which is slated to take place on October 11 at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi. Notably, the great cricketer missed the opening game as well against Australia on October 8 as he was suffering from high dengue fever.

According to reports, the 24-year-old cricketer got the symptoms of dengue in the ODI World Cup 2023 warm-up clash against England in Guwahati. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan is expected to open the innings along with skipper Rohit Sharma, whereas Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul will bat in the middle order after Virat Kohli against Afghanistan.

According to sources, Shubman Gill is well and recovering quickly. The sources confirmed that the right-handed batter will miss the second clash; however, he will be travelling with the team in Delhi and will not be resting at his home in Chandigarh. In addition, the sources also revealed that the Indian Cricket Board management is trying hard to make his return ahead of the clash against Pakistan slated to take place on October 14 at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahemdabad.

“Shubman Gill is recovering and he will be travelling with the team to Delhi. He will be with the team and is not likely to go to his home in Chandigarh for rest. We hope that he will be back on the field before the match against Pakistan, and playing against Afghanistan will depend on his next medical report,” a source informed ANI.

Meanwhile, India won their opening game against Australia on October 8 owing to stellar performances from Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, and Shreyas Iyer bagged ducks during the game, but the Men in Blue held their nerves to win the game by six wickets against Pat Cummins and Co.
