‘Someone at the stadium called me Anna Bhaiya Today’- R Ashwin’s tweets calls for social media response

Ravichandran Ashwin was nothing short of outstanding on day 3 of the first Test against Australia on Saturday. After India were bowled out for 400 runs in their first innings and took a lead of 223 runs, Ravichandran Ashwin ripped through Australia’s batting line-up with his turn and guile.

He was brought into the attack in the second over of the innings itself and the decision bore fruits as well. Ashwin induced Khawaja to go for the drive by bowling a flighted delivery around off.

The southpaw got an outside edge only for Kohli to take the catch at slips. Warner got a reprieve earlier when Kohli dropped him at slips. However, he couldn’t make the most of that chance as Ashwin had him leg-before as well.

The Indian spinner then picked the wickets of Renshaw, Handscomb, and Alex Carey to complete his 31st five-wicket haul in Test Cricket. His impressive spell with the ball helped the team bundle out Australia for just 91 runs on the board. Hence, India won the game by innings and 132 runs.

Following the completion of the game, R Ashwin took to his Twitter handle to shed light on an incident that happened on the field. He revealed that one of the fans from the stadium referred to him as ‘Anna Bhaiya’.

A lot of fans from Chennai call him as ‘Anna’, which means ‘Elder Brother’. However, when a fan called him as ‘Anna Bhaiya’, Ashwin felt it should be corrected and thus gave an explanation to that.

Here’s what he wrote in his tweet:

“Someone at the stadium called me Anna Bhaiya today. Anna and Bhaiya are one and the same ( big brother ) . I am extremely grateful for the love receive but this one small correction would help.

Earlier, India bundled out Australia for just 177 runs, thanks to a five-wicket haul from Ravindra Jadeja. Rohit Sharma notched his first ton in Test Cricket as Indian captain in India’s first innings, helping the team notch a mammoth score of 400 runs.
