South Africa pacer Lungi Ngidi gets ruled out for T20I series vs India

The South African cricket team is all set to lock horns against Team India for the multi-format series. Notably, both sides showed their magnificent form in the ODI World Cup 2023; however, both suffered defeats against Australia in the playoffs. However, Team India defeated South Africa when both sides faced each other in the league stage of the marquee event.

However, Proteas will be looking to dominate against the Men in Blue for the upcoming T20I series slated to commence on December 10 in Durban. Meanwhile, South African star pacer Lungi Ngidi has been ruled out of the T20I series against India after sustaining leg injuries. Notably, the 27-year-old cricketer is currently in the rehab phase and will be looking to make his comeback soon.

“Proteas fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has been ruled out of the three-match KFC T20I series against India due to a left lateral ankle sprain. The 27-year-old has been released from the squad and will return to his provincial team where he will undergo his rehabilitation with the Momentum Multiply Titans under the supervision of the Proteas medical team,” Cricket South Africa said in a release.

Initially, Lungi Ngidi was expected to play in the round of four-day matches: Reports

Cricket South Africa has confirmed that they were planning to include him in the first T20Is; however, his injuries are grave, which have ruled him out of the series. Meanwhile, Proteas has announced his replacement for the India series.

“Initially he was expected to play in the round of four-day matches from 14 – 17 December in preparation for the two-match Betway Test series but will instead be further assessed by the medical team on his progress. Western Province fast bowler Beuran Hendricks has been named as his replacement,” he added further.
