India are currently locking horns against New Zealand in the first ODI of the three-match ODI series. The match is being played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The second ODI of the series will be played at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Raipur on Saturday, January 21. The third and final match of the series will be played on Tuesday, January 24 at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore.

Men in Blue skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. Team India’s openers Rohit and Shubman Gill built up a partnership of 60 runs before the captain was sent back to the pavilion by Kiwis right-arm seamer Blair Tickner on the first ball of the 13th over. Before going back to the stand, the 35-year-old scored 34 runs off 38 balls which included 4 fours and 2 sixes.

Virat Kohli – Man of the Series in the ODI series against Sri Lanka

After the Mumbai franchise skipper’s dismissal, the former India skipper, Virat Kohli came onto the crease. But this time around, he was not able to leave the mark as he departed early. He was able to score only 8 runs off 10 balls which included a boundary.

The Bangalore franchise cricketer was bowled on the second ball of the 15th over which was bowled by Blackcaps left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner. Kohli totally misjudged the ball. The ball didn’t spin much, so it was nothing from the pitch that led to the dismissal.

Kohli stood in disbelief as he saw the ball shatter the off stump. The ball pitched just outside the off stump from round the wicket and just turned enough on top of the off stumps.

Virat got off to a great start in 2023 with two hundred in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Since this year is the ODI World Cup, there are huge expectations from the great batter to lead India’s campaign.

In addition to winning “Man of the Match” for his outstanding performance in the third ODI against the Lankans, Kohli also won “Man of the Series” for his 283 runs scored throughout the series.
