‘Asked for the 71st century but he scored 74th’ – Virat Kohli fan’s special post from his ‘special day’ goes viral

Virat Kohli, one of the all-time great batters, appears to be back to his best after scoring his third ODI century in the last four games and also helping India defeat Sri Lanka by a record 317 runs in Trivandrum. An ardent fan of Kohli revealed on Twitter that he got married the same day the former India captain hit his 74th international century for India on Sunday when he lit up with a scintillating 166 in the third ODI.

The same fan was earlier seen carrying a poster declaring that he would not get married until Kohli scored his 71st international century while watching one of India’s games there. And it is fair to say that Kohli made everybody wait for that for fairly long as he was sitting on 70 centuries for nearly three years.

However, after breaking the long drought against Afghanistan at the Asia Cup last year, the 33-year-old appeared to be back in his best shape. The post has since gone viral, garnering 1 million views. “I asked for the 71st century but he scored 74th on my special day” after Kohli hit his 74th international century, the supporter tweeted.

Virat Kohli rested for the ODI series against New Zealand

With two centuries in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, Virat has a stellar start to 2023. There are high expectations for the great batter to lead India’s campaign because this year is the ODI World Cup.

Awarded “Man of the Match” for his heroics in the third ODI against the Lankans, Kohli also received the “Man of the Series” title for his 283 runs scored over the series.

Regarding the game itself, it was the largest run-for-run victory ever recorded for a side in ODI cricket. In fact, the Indian team made history by becoming the first to win by at least 300 runs.

Kohli has been rested for the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand in order to manage his workload ahead of this year’s ODI World Cup at home. The series opener will be played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Wednesday, January 18. The second ODI of the series will be played at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Raipur on Saturday, January 21. The third and final match of the series will be played on Tuesday, January 24 at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore.
