Star allrounder Shakib Al Hasan becomes first Bangladeshi player to take 300 wickets in ODIs
Star allrounder Shakib Al Hasan helped Bangladesh to beat England in the 3rd ODI with his outstanding performance. Bangladesh defeated England by 50 runs to avoid a whitewash in the three-match ODI series. Jos Buttler-led England slumped against Shakib’s all-around performance and failed to chase 246 runs.
Bangladesh scored their highest total of the series after winning the toss and deciding to bat first. They were bowled out for 246 with the help of brilliant half-centuries from Najmul Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahman, and Shakib. Shakib scored 75 runs off 71 balls. On the other hand, Sam Curran, once again, did a fantastic job for England with the new ball, easily getting rid of the openers Litton Das and Tamim Iqbal.
In response, England started well as Phill Salt scored a quick 35 off 25 balls before getting dismissed by Shakib. Salt along with Jason Roy added 54 runs for the first wicket. After Salt’s dismissal, England failed to capitalize on a quick start and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Shakib ,with his brilliant bowling performance, dismissed the English top order and ensured a big victory for the team.
Bangladesh lost its first ODI series since 2016 at home
With Shakib’s four-wicket haul, Bangladesh restricted England to 196 in 43 overs. Salt, James Vince, and Chris Woakes tried to rescue England but eventually failed to build a partnership. However, with his four wickets, Shakib became the first Bangladeshi player to clinch 300 wickets in ODIs.
In his record-breaking spell, Shakib joined Sanath Jayasuriya and Shahid Afridi as the third all-rounder with more than 6000 runs and 300 or more wickets in ODIs. He also joined Jayasuriya and Daniel Vettori as the third left-arm spinner to reach this milestone.
However, England won the series by 2-1 as they beat Bangladesh in the first two games by huge margins. England also became the first team to win an ODI series in Bangladesh since 2016.
