Star England allrounder to miss majority of PSL 2023 due to national commitments
England all-rounder Moeen Ali is likely to miss the majority of the 2023 Pakistan Super League (PSL) due to national commitments, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Wednesday, February 8. Ali was roped in by the two-time PSL champions Islamabad United in the initial draft. He is part of the England squad for their white-ball tour to Bangladesh, which includes three One-day Internationals (ODIs) and as many T20Is, which will begin on March 1 ad go on until 14. The Bangladesh tour will be crucial for England’s white-ball captain as he can focus more on the national side ahead of the ODI World Cup which is scheduled to be held this year.
Even though Ali will be available after the Bangladesh tour, the chances of him playing for Islamabad United will not happen if the PSL side fail to make it to the playoffs. However, Islamabad picked South African batter Rassie van der Dussen as a replacement for the left-hander. Moeen’s compatriot James Vince who is picked by Karachi Kings will not be available for three PSL matches as well, as he will feature in the one-dayers against Bangladesh. He was replaced by Englishman Adam Rossington. Another PSL franchise, Peshawar Zalmi have drafted in Australian leg-spinner Peter Hatzoglou as the replacement for Afghanistan spinner Mujeebur Rehman. Rehman will only be available after February 19.

The 2023 Pakistan Super League will be starting on February 13. The first four teams will qualify for the playoffs in the eighth edition of the six-team tournament. The playoffs will begin on March 15 and the summit clash will be held on March 19. The Pakistan Cricket Board announced that the venues of the upcoming season will be Multan, Peshawar, Lahore and Karachi. Lahore and Karachi were also the venues in the last edition. Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar was on the venue list but was later declared unfit to conduct any matches in the tournament. Quetta’s Bugti Stadium in Quetta was also added to the list of PSL venues but was later removed due to security concerns.
