‘I have to admit that my emotions……’ – Stuart Broad reflects on emotional moment of his last day in Test cricket of Ashes 2023

Former England cricketer Stuart Broad recalled his last game of international cricket for the Ashes 2023. Notably, Australia just needed 50 runs on the last day to win the prestigious title with one wicket to go. English captain Jos Buttler brought Broad, who took his 604th wicket, to dismiss Alex Carey as well as help his side level up the series after losing the first two Test matches in five matches of the series.

The English cricketer revealed that the crowd was cheering him on to level up the series against Australia. In addition, the right-arm pacer says that he had so many thoughts in his mind as he realized that it would be his last over of his professional cricketing journey.

“I did it, heard a bit of a cheer and started my walk back to my run-up. Had the realization that this was my last-ever ball. I have to admit that my emotions got the better of me, my legs went like jelly. Started shaking them, thinking, ‘gosh, I have to get some feeling back. I knew it would be my last over in professional cricket,” Stuart Broad said on Sky Sports.

I loved every moment of walking off the field at The Oval: Stuart Broad

Stuart Broad reveals that winning the Test matches was a very big thing for him before getting his retirement. In addition, the Nottingham-born cricketer admitted that it would have been a devastating moment for him if they had lost the Ashes in 2023 on his home soil. Moreover, the 37-year-old cricketer was ecstatic to see his family there on his final day of cricket.

“I loved every moment of walking off the field at The Oval, beating Australia in an Ashes Test. Winning the Test was the biggest thing for me – the emotion of the crowd and winning the game. It would have been devastating for me to walk off for the final time having lost a Test to the Aussies. Walking off with the boxes behind us, seeing my mum, my dad, [partner] Mollie, [daughter] Annabella and friends, it just felt perfect,” he added further.
