‘Sardi Lag gyi Bechary ko’ – Fans react as Temba Bavuma gets ruled out, Aiden Markram to lead South Africa against England in ODI World Cup 2023 clash
South Africa has locked horns with England for their fifth clash of the ODI World Cup 2023 on October 21 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Notably, the side will be led by star all-rounder Aiden Markram as regular skipper Temba Bavuma falls sick ahead of their game against England. However, Jos Buttler and Co. have marked the return of great all-rounder Ben Stokes in the ODI World Cup 2023.
Notably, both teams are coming into the clash after suffering heartbreaking defeats against the frail team. South Africa suffered a loss against the Netherlands in their last game, while the Afghanistan team beat the Jos Buttler-led side in their last game held at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi. However, Proteas still places themselves in the third spot, while England are currently at the bottom of the points table.
The Proteas get their historic win against Sri Lanka in the opening game of the 2023 ODI World Cup. The Temba Bavuma side also thrashed five-time world champions Australia in their next clash before getting a loss against the Netherlands. In addition, England only has one win out of three games, as they suffered a loss against New Zealand in their tournament’s opening game.
Temba Bavuma is ill, so Reeza Hendricks comes in: Aiden Markram
Meanwhile, stand-in skipper Aiden Markram revealed that Temba Bavuma is ill, which makes way for Reeza Hendricks in the game. “Bavuma is ill, so Reeza comes in. Nice opportunity for him. Might be a little bit in it (pitch) during the powerplay. Sort of motivates you a bit. Not focusing too much on it. It’s about reaching those standards set by us. Reeza has been knocking on the door for a while, he comes in. It’s a fantastic opportunity for him,” Aiden Markram said during the toss.
South Africa (Playing XI): Quinton de Kock(w), Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram(c), Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Gerald Coetzee, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi.
England (Playing XI): Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler(w/c), David Willey, Adil Rashid, Gus Atkinson, Mark Wood, Reece Topley.
