‘That would be their worst call’ – Fans react as England’s coach drops major update on Jofra Archer’s availability for ODI World Cup 2023

The English cricket team is gearing up to defend the World Cup title that is slated to take place in October and November this year in India. Notably, the Jos Buttler side will be facing New Zealand on October 5 to commence their journey. Moreover, the English team has a few injured players in their squad who might return to play in the upcoming major tournament.

Meanwhile, speaking on the same subject, England white ball head coach Matthew Mott revealed that England ace pacer Jofra Archer might feature in the upcoming World Cup. In addition, the former batter says that the English team is planning to get him back in the squad owing to his exceptional talent on the big stage.

“There is a high chance that we will take a risk on a proven performer [like Archer] that has done it on the world stage. We are planning for him to be available. Obviously, a lot of things have to go his way and it will be a tight timeline but with players like that you are going to give them every opportunity to prove their fitness, and so we will keep an open mind,” Matthew Mott said

Notably, the 49-year-old coach highlighted that the English cricketer will not feature in all the games; the great pacer will be targeted in a few games on Indian soil. Furthermore, the southpaw believes it would be exciting to see how Markwood, who has excelled in red-ball cricket (in the Ashes 2023), performs in white-ball cricket in the absence of Jofra Archer.

“It would be a big ask for him to play every game, so we would have to target specific ones, but we are big on ball speed for India, we feel like that’s a really important asset for us to have out there and it will be good to see Mark Wood, who had such an impact in the Ashes, do the same with the white ball,” he added further.
