“The team won’t become weaker despite him not being there” – Aakash Chopra talks about Australia batter’s absence from the Border-Gavaskar Trophy

The Australian batter suffered a concussion and a hairline fracture on his elbow which led to him being ruled out of the final two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Australia are dealing with problems both on and off the field in India. On the field, Australia have been beaten by India under three days twice and India have already retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Off the field, the former cricket players and pundits have voiced out their opinions about the Australian team and seems to be that the team is surely struggling in Indian conditions. 

The Australian team have already faced a lot of setbacks as they have already sent Ashton Agar and Josh Hazelwood home and are coming up short on armor. To add further to this blow, experienced opener David Warner has also gone back home after he suffered a hairline fracture on his elbow.   

What did Aakash Chopra say about David Warner?

Aakash Chopra, the former cricketer turned commentator spoke on his YouTube channel about how the Australian team will deal without Warner. He said, ””David Warner has gone back. He got injured in his arm and couldn’t play the last match (second innings) due to a concussion. They are saying it is a minor fracture and he is now not available for the third and fourth Tests. Does the opposition team become weak because of that?”

He further spoke about how Australia won’t feel the absence of David Warner. He said, “It feels slightly odd to say that the team won’t become weaker despite Warner not being there. But the numbers we have seen from him in India, his situation in front of Ashwin and considering the kind of confidence he had, it seems it will not make any difference to the opposition team.”

In the 10 Tests Warner has played in India, he has scored just 414 runs at a woeful average of 21.78 and is frequently seen suffering against Ravichandran Ashwin. The southpaw struggled mightily in the first two Test matches in Nagpur and Delhi, scoring only 26 runs over the course of his three innings. Australia would be hoping that Renshaw, who is the most likely replacement, makes a good case for himself at the top of the order.
