‘These two guys are going to play a big role’ – Rohit Sharma praises MI youngsters, likens them to Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah
Mumbai Indians and Rohit Sharma have been troubled with the exit of star players from the franchise in IPL 2023. The backbone of the bowling team Jasprit Bumrah was already out of the mega tournament with injury before even the start.
During the league stages, MI continued losing players with Jofra Archer being one of the most important ones to go. Add to that the slump in performance for some of the main players, MI were facing the heat on the IPL points table.
This is when the young players in the MI camp stoop up and took charge of their fate. Players like Tilak Varma and Nehal Wadhera rose up to the occasion and brought MI out of their misery. Varma and Wadhera were two players who helped the team reach IPL 2023 playoffs.
Understandably, Rohit Sharma has been impressed by the two players and likened them to be next superstars for the MI as well as Indian National team. In a recent interview with JioCinema, Rohit Sharma praised the two players and said, “The story of Bumrah, Hardik, Krunal will be similar to Talal Varma and Nehal Wadhera – after 2 years, people will say this is a superstar team – these two guys are going to play a big role for Mumbai and India in future.”
Tough road ahead for MI
As for the MI team, currently, they are to play LSG in the IPL 2023 Eliminator on May 24th at the Chepauk Stadium. Mumbai’s journey to the IPL 2023 trophy is very tough as they would then have to face Gujarat Titans in the second Qualifier to reach the final. In the final, MI would have to then trump MS Dhoni-led CSK side for winning their 6th IPL trophy.
With such young players rising to the occasion as well as other veterans coming to form at the right moment, MI is all set to put forth a great challenge in the IPL 2023. It would be interesting to see if they are able to achieve what they have already done 5 times.
