‘They will be considered for the…..’ – Ex-India bowler Pragyan Ojha names two Indian players who are very important for ODI World Cup
Former India cricketer turned analyst Pragyan Ojha feels that India star batters KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer will be crucial for the Asia Cup and World Cup. Notably, both of them are currently undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy as they are yet to fully recover from their injuries. Moreover, their presence in the Asia Cup 2023 is still uncertain, but the team management is eager to settle them in the middle order. Furthermore, Men in Blue need experienced players with some consistency in the middle order, especially during the World Cup.
Notably, the former India bowler says that KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer will be very important for the upcoming mega tournaments. Moreover, the great spinner feels that even though these batters are not part of the upcoming tours against Ireland, they will be considered for the Asia Cup and World Cup. Furthermore, the 36-year-old cricketer went on to say that everyone is unaware of where their injuries stand and when they will be fully fit.
“Both (Shreyas and KL) are very important for India in the World Cup. They are not part of the series against Ireland, but I think they will be considered. I don’t know where they stand in terms of fitness and recovery is a concern. But they are very crucial for the World Cup and Asia Cup,” Ojha told the Times of India.
India are looking for players and batters who can bat at No 4 and No 5: Pragyan Ojha
The Odisha-born batter further says that the Rohit Sharma-led side is looking for a batter who can bat at 4 and 5, which Iyer and Rahul both fit into from every perspective.
“In terms of consistency, experience, form, performance, contribution to the team and scoring runs, both KL and Shreyas are up there. Both have a lot of experience. India are looking for players and batters who can bat at No. 4 and No. 5. These are the numbers and slots where we face challenges most of the time,” Pragyan Ojha added further.
