Why Sydney Sixers star Tom Curran set to face 4-match ban in BBL 13? Check here:

England star all-rounder Tom Curran has faced a four-match ban from the ongoing Big Bash League Edition 13 during his stint with the Sydney Sixers. Notably, the star cricketer was recently brought to the RCB franchise in the IPL 2024 auction for 1.5 Crore, which took place on December 19 in Dubai. The incident has led to some serious consequences for him after that against the Hobart Hurricanes on December 11.

According to the statement and multiple reports, the 28-year-old cricketer’s ban is a consequence of an argument that he had with an on-filed umpire before the Sydney Sixers’ vs. the Hobart Hurricanes clash in Launceston on December 11. In addition, the batting all-rounder attempted a practice run-up on the pitch. However, major consequences have resulted for English cricketer after the incident.

“The umpire took position next to the stumps, blocking Curran from approaching the pitch and gestured to Curran to move away from the pitch. Tom Curran was seen in the footage gesturing to the umpire to move away from the pitch. Curran then attempted to perform a practice run-up and run at pace straight towards the umpire who stood in the bowling crease facing Curran. The umpire stepped to his right to avoid the risk of collision,” the statement read.

However, the Sydney Sixers head, Rachael Haynes, came out in support of the 28-year-old cricketer after the incident that caused the major controversy on December 21. The CEO of the franchise clarified that right-arm pacer Tom Curran did not have an argument with match officials intentionally before the game. Moreover, the head also showed support for him, looking forward to seeing him on the cricket field after his four match ban.

“Tom Curran and the club maintain that Tom did not knowingly or intentionally intimidate a match official, and on legal advice, we will exercise our right to appeal the decision. We will support Tom during this period and look forward to him returning to the field,” Sydney Sixers Head Rachael Haynes said.
