Top 5 unsold players from IPL 2024 mini-auctions
The IPL 2024 mini-auction took place on December 19 in Dubai. Notably, a plethora of cricketers were picked for an unexpected amount for the marquee event slated to commence from March to May next year, including the likes of Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc.
Moreover, the eyes were already set on Australian stars and England cricketers for the IPL 2024 auction, owing to their thrilling performances in the past edition.
However, there were also plenty of cricketers who went unsold in the auction despite having great records in IPL and on Indian soil conditions. Meanwhile, check out these five big names, who were quite shocking after not getting picked up and struggling to find a franchise.
Steve Smith
Australia’s star cricketer Steve Smith, who set his base price of 2 crore, went unsold in the IPL 2024 auction, which took place on December 19 in Dubai.
Notably, the star cricketer failed to show his solid form in the ODI World Cup 2023, which made him miss the upcoming IPL. Furthermore, the top-order batter has not had great form in T20Is in recent years.
Josh Hazlewood
Australia’s prominent pacer Josh Hazlewood also remained unsold, as he wasn’t available for the first few sets owing to the birth of his first child.
According to sources, Hazlewood isn’t available for the months of March and April, and no franchise was interested in using him at the end of the campaign.
Tabraiz Shamsi
South African star spinner Tabraiz Shamsi was not picked up in the auction, which was quite shocking for the cricketing fraternity.
In addition, the leg-spinner showed his lethal form in the ODI World Cup 2023 and led his side to the semi-finals of the marquee event but went unselected by any of the franchises.
Adil Rashid
England’s star pacer, Adil Rashid, has also been unsold, which was also the most shocking, as he has a great figure when it comes to the shortest format of the game.
Moreover, the right-arm pacer has great experience with Indian home soil conditions, and despite that, no franchise was interested in him.
Phil Salt
England’s opening batter, Phil Salt, has displayed his form in the ongoing T20I series against the West Indies after hammering two back-to-back centuries in the third and fourth T20I.
However, the top-order batter was unsold in the mini-auction, and no franchise was up for grabs to pick him up in the IPL 2024 mini-auction, which was quite shocking for him as well on a personal note.
