‘Trophy door kyu dikhaayi de raha hai’ – Fans react as RCB women go down to DC women by 25 runs to lose their first match of WPL 2024

RCB women lost the first match of the WPL 2024, thanks to a brilliant all-round performance from DC women. The home side were totally outplayed by DC women in all three departments. There was no way RCB women were going to chase down a target of 195, which is not easy at all. Barring toss, nothing went right for RCB women.

Smriti Mandhana won the toss and elected to bowl first. RCB started well in the innings, claiming the big wicket of Meg Lanning. However, things went totally downhill for them from there. Shafali Verma and Alice Capsey stitched a fantastic partnership together for the 2nd wicket and bailed DC out of the difficult position. After getting set, there was no stopping them.

While Verma got out after scoring fifty, Capsey was impressive with a good 46. After the duo got dismissed, Jess Jonassen and Marizanne Kapp joined together to smack the bowlers. It was their partnership that changed the complexion of the game. The duo added 70 runs for the last five overs, which was a huge difference between the two sides. RCB bowlers were poor in the middle and the death overs.

Smriti Mandhana wages lone war for the home side

Chasing a daunting total of 195 runs, the RCB skipper went bonkers. It was as if Smriti waged a lone war in the run chase. The star batter went after the bowlers right from the word go. At one point it seemed as if RCB were going to pull off the chase. However, the wicket of Mandhana turned the game. What followed was a lack of intent from the middle-order batters. The absence of Ellyse Perry cost RCB a lot.

There was a lack of experience in the middle order which did not help them. S Meghana scored 36(31) in a chase of 195, which was not useful either. Things like it cost RCB the game. DC women held their nerves and made a great turnaround. Kapp was brilliant with the ball as well and was the star of the game for DC, as they beat RCB by 25 runs.
