Two Bihar teams turn up for clash against Mumbai in Ranji Trophy, start delayed due to heated exchange between BCA officials

The Moin-ul-Haq Stadium in Patna has been the centre of severe criticism in the past week owing to its poor facilities. Notably, an odd scenario unfolded on Friday when two squads claimed to be the Bihar Ranji Trophy squad for the clash against Mumbai. However, Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) officials erupted into a heated argument and dispute, which required the involvement of the local police in the stadium.

However, the BCA President, Rakesh Tiwary, reveals that out of the two, they have picked the team that was on merit to play the game against Mumbai. In addition, they have clarified that the picking team has a few Indian Premier League IPL star names as well.

“We have picked the team on merit and that is the right team. You see the talent that is coming from Bihar. We have a cricketer (Sakib Hussain), who is picked in the IPL. We have a 12-year-old prodigy making his debut in the game. The other is being picked by the secretary who is suspended, so it can’t be the real team,” he told The Indian Express.

However, BCA Secretary Amit Kumar challenged Tiwary’s suspension claims. Amit Kumar alleged that the president has no right to pick the teams. Moreover, he uses the examples of Roger Binny and Jay Shah to prove his point.

The miscreants have been identified and action will be taken against them: BCA

“First things first: I won the election, and I am an official secretary of the BCA. You can’t suspend a secretary. Secondly, how can a president select a team? Have you ever seen the Indian Cricket Board president Roger Binny announcing the squad? You will always see the signature of Secretary Jay Shah,” he said.

Meanwhile, BCA also lashed out at the Secretary for creating such chaos and making the fake team destroy the spirit of the game in the Ranji Trophy.

“There was a life-threatening attack on BCA’s OSD Manoj Kumar by those involved in the fake team. The miscreants have been identified and action will be taken against them,” the BCA release said.
