‘Va cahlo is sal hume inse khatra nahi h’ – Fans in dismay as Michael Bracewell is set to miss ODI World Cup 2023 due to injury

After sustaining a torn right Achilles tendon while batting for the Worcestershire Rapids in the English T20 Blast, New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell is set to miss the ODI World Cup. He will likely be out of action for six to eight months.

The injury happened at a critical point in his career since it would cause him to miss the forthcoming ODI Cricket World Cup, which will be held in India from October to November. He will undergo surgery in the United Kingdom on Thursday. Following his surgery, he will undergo long treatment to restore full fitness. Due to his rehabilitation, he will be unable to compete in the highly anticipated 50-over World Cup.

Firstly, you always feel for the player when injury strikes: Gary Stead

Gary Stead, head coach of New Zealand, extended his condolences to Bracewell and the squad, highlighting the significance of the injury on both an individual and collective level. Stead praised Bracewell’s performance during the previous 15 months, during which he showed exceptional abilities in all formats of the game. Bracewell built himself as an essential member of the Kiwis and was anticipated to play an important part in the World Cup in India.

The Kiwi Coach stated, “Firstly, you always feel for the player when injury strikes and especially when it means they will have to miss a world event”. “Michael’s a great team man and has had a fantastic 15 months for the BLACKCAPS since his international debut.”

“We’ve seen his exceptional skills in all three facets of the game and he was shaping as an important player for us at the world cup in India. Michael’s naturally pretty disappointed, but also pragmatic in acknowledging that injuries are a part of sport and he’s now turning his focus to his rehabilitation.”

New Zealand were runners-up to hosts England at the last 50-over World Cup in 2019, losing by the barest of margin. They will definitely miss the service of their skipper Kane Williamson, who ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while fielding for Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League. India will be hosting this year’s tournament in October and November, with dates to be confirmed.
