Mohammed Shami and Virat Kohli had a fantastic tournament as individual performers. the Indian cricketers were the leading wicket-takers and leading run-scorers in the tournament. Shami was sensational in the tournament, despite missing the first 4 matches of the tournament. Virat broke several records in the tournament, including the world record for most hundreds for a batter in the history of ODIs.
India did not have a great final. But they were able to put up a good performance in the tournament. In their campaign, India was able to remain unbeaten till the final, by playing fearless cricket. India dominated the tournament till the final. Two main reasons for their dominant run till the final were Virat’s and Shami’s performances.
In the semifinal of the tournament, Virat scored a magnificent ton against New Zealand. The Indian batter scored 117 against the Kiwi bowlers and registered his maiden ton in the Knockout stage of the ODI World Cup. Mohammed Shami, on the other hand, claimed a whopping 7 wickets and helped India to win the match by 70 runs. The two individuals were at their best in the tournament but could not win it.
Virat recorded the most number of runs for a batter in the single edition of the tournament. Virat also happened to score the most number of fifty-plus scores by a batter in a single edition of the World Cup. On the other hand, Shami claimed the most number of wickets by an Indian bowler in a single edition of the World Cup. Their stats in the tournament were astonishing.
