Wasim Jaffer shares cryptic Tweet to slam Indian team selection West Indies tour

Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer took to social media to express his displeasure over Indian squads selected for the upcoming tour to West Indies. He slammed the selectors for not including players like Sarfaraz Khan, Abhimanyu Easwaran and Priyank Panchal in the Test squad. He also asked the Board how Ruturaj Gaikwad got selected in red-ball squad.

The Indian Cricket Board on Friday announced the squads for the Tests and ODIs for the upcoming multi-format series against the Windies. Young guns like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad got their maiden call for the Indian Test team. Meanwhile, Bengal pacer Mukesh Kumar has also been included in Tests and ODI squads and is likely to make his India debut.

Jaiswal and Gaikwad had a great outing in IPL and were amongst the leading run scorers of the season. Jaiswal amassed 625 runs in 14 matches for Rajasthan Royals at an average of 48.07. For Chennai Super Kings, Gaikwad has scored 590 runs in 16 matches averaging 42.14. However, players like Sarfaraz, Easwaran, and Panchal, who had a great season in the domestic season didn’t get a place in the Indian Test squad for the upcoming series. Considering these factors, Jaffer shared a number of observations on social media to criticize the selectors.

“What’s the need for four openers? (Rohit, Shubman Gill, Gaikwad and Jaiswal) Instead, they could have picked Sarfaraz as extra middle order bat to honour his consistent domestic performances,” Jaffer wrote on his Twitter.

“Easwaran and Panchal have been doing the hard yards in Ranji and India A, knocking on Test doors for a long time. Just because they don’t play IPL, is it a case of out of sight out of mind? How did Ruturaj jump the queue?” he further added.

Jaffer also expressed surprise at the selectors for resting pacer Mohammed Shami in the West Indies tour even after a break of one month after the World Test Championship final The former cricketer feels that Shami is a type of bowler who only gets better the more he bowls.

“Surprised to see Shami rested and that too after a month long break. I feel he’s the type of bowler that the more he bowls the better/fitter and in form he gets,” he concluded.
