Watch : Bangalore Women’s franchise undergo full training session ahead of the first game in the Women’s T20 League

Smriti Mandhana, who ultimately cost the most in the Women’s T20 League auction, has been selected as the captain for the Bangalore franchise for the 2023 campaign. Smriti Mandana, a sensation in India, was named captain earlier in February, and tennis player Sania Mirza served as the team’s mentor.

Ellyse Perry, Dan van Niekerk, Heather Knight, Sophie Devine, the captain of New Zealand, and Sophie Devine, of England, are just a few of the outstanding all-rounders the squad has signed. 

In-form wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh, Bangalore will also be looking to make the most of her skills in the first WTL season. The right-hander scored 136 runs in five games with a strike rate of 130.77 to lead the Women in Blue to a semi-final place in the recently finished Women’s 20-20 World Cup 2023.

Just before their inaugural match against Delhi in the Women’s T20 League 2023 at the Brabourne-CCI on Sunday, March 5, Bangalore participated in a complete squad practice so that the team is unified and the coaches have a better look at the team.

What did Mike Hesson of the Bangalore franchise talk about the upcoming Women’s T20 League?

Mike Hesson, the director of cricket at the Bangalore franchise spoke about the quality that their team possesses. He said, “I think it’s highly likely that all six players will roll up at some stage not just because of fatigue but because of different skill sets, different match-ups that we will be looking to operate against different teams. We are really fortunate that we got six high-quality [foreign] players.”

The head coach of the Bangalore franchise has been named to be the Australian Ben Swayer, who is presently in charge of the New Zealand women’s side. In addition, Sawyer, 45, is currently Birmingham Phoenix’s coach in The Hundred. In addition to being the assistant coach of the Australian women, he has led the Sydney Sixers in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL).
