Watch: Bizarre incident from TNPL as batter gets lifeline after no fielder appeals for run-out

The Tamil Nadu Premier League is one of the biggest domestic T20 leagues in cricket. Given the longevity and the pool of talented players, TNPL brings out some great matches to the forefront. One such match was between Salem Spartans and Lyca Kovai Kings at the Salem Cricket Foundation Stadium on June 27th.

The game brought out total domination from the Kings as they subjected the Spartans to a huge 79-run defeat in the all-important match. While the game brought innumerable heart-in-mouth moments, one that has become the talk of social media took place in the second inning.

During Kings’ batting inning, Spartans team made a huge giveaway as they failed to appeal for what appeared to be a clear runout. Kings’ opening batter S Sujay, in order to evade the throw from the fielding team, jumped over the non-striker crease. During this evasion, however, the ball managed to hit the wicket while Sujay’s both feet were in the air.

This, in usual cricketing terms, is considered out and Sujay would have had to go back to the dressing room, had the fielders appealed. To everyone’s surprise, however, none of the fielders appealed to this run-out. The umpire was under no obligation to give it out since the fielding team did not appeal and hence the match proceeded as is normally the case.

Here’s the bizarre incident from TNPL:

Soon, however, replays on the big screen showed what had happened and that is when it hit the Spartans’ team. They had just given away a good chance to get ahead in the game in what appeared to be a lack of judgement from the players. Kings’ players and fans were understandably ecstatic at the free extra wicket that they just received. The videos of the incident soon went viral on social media as fans shared the brain-fade incident from the players.

Spartans’ come up with huge win

As for the match, it was a complete whitewash by Kings’ who first posted a huge total of 199/8 on the scoreboard. Ram Arvindh was the star of the show as he made the fastest half-century of TNPL. Kings’ bowlers then colluded to get the Spartans’ team out for cheap at just 120 runs and won the match by a huge 79 runs margin.
