The Australia vs Pakistan Test series is the last series for the veteran Australian opener David Warner. In addition to it, the second Test of Australia against Pakistan also marked as the last Test match at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). In the second innings of the match, the legendary Australian opener was out cheaply and it was also the last innings that he played at momentous ground.
The Australia’s batter David Warner received a standing ovation during the final innings of his Test career at the iconic MCG on Thursday. Despite scoring a century in the first Test against Pakistan in Perth, Warner posted scores of 38 and 6 in the ongoing Boxing Day Test at MCG. Expressing dissatisfaction with his dismissal by Mir Hamza in his last Test innings at MCG, Warner received a special send-off from the crowd.
As the spectators applauded him with a unique ovation, Warner appeared visibly emotional, waving his bat and giving a thumbs-up gesture in response. Warner surpassed Steve Waugh to become the second-highest run-scorer for Australia
On Wednesday, Warner surpassed the former captain and legendary batter Steve Waugh to become the second-highest run-scorer for Australia. With 18,515 runs in 371 international appearances at an average of 42.56, Warner has now achieved this milestone. In his international cricket he has scored 49 centuries and 93 fifties, with a highest score of 335*.
On the all-time run-scoring list, the southpaw is positioned above Waugh (18,496 runs in 493 matches at an average of 41.65, with 35 centuries and 95 fifties) and below the legendary Ricky Ponting (27,368 runs at an average of 45.84 in 559 matches with 70 centuries and 146 fifties). In the Test format, Warner has played 111 matches and has amassed 8,689 runs at an average of 44.78. He has even scored 26 centuries and 36 fifties in 202 innings with a highest score of 335*.
