WATCH: England’s Jack Leach dismisses Will Young with a ripper in the 2nd Test against New Zealand

England locked horns against New Zealand in the second and final Test of the series which is being played at Basin Reserve, Wellington. The match kicked off on February 24. The hosts won the toss and elected to bowl first. New Zealand brought in Will Young and Matt Henry in place of Scott Kuggelejin and Blair Tickner, respectively. On the other side, the visitors were unchanged.

While batting first, England scored 435 runs for the l runs off the loss of 8 wickets and declared their innings. The top scorers for the side were Harry Brook and Joe Root. Brook scored 186 runs off 176 balls, which included 24 boundaries and five sixes, whereas Root played an unbeaten knock of 153 runs off 224 balls, with 10 boundaries and three sixes.

While bowling in the second innings, the Three Lions’ left-arm spinner Jack Leach bowled a brilliant delivery that angled in, drifted, and spin away from the middle stump.  The batter was stuck in the middle as he tried to defend the ball with an open stance. But he gets beaten on the outside edge and loses his off-stump.

New Zealand trail by 24 runs

The star of Blackcaps bowling was Henry who took four wickets in his spell of 22.1 overs and conceded 100 runs. Two wickets were taken by spinner Michael Bracewell in The wicketkeeper-batter 11 overs and conceded 54 runs in his spell. 1-1 wicket was bagged by team skipper Tim Southee and Neil Wagner in their 24 overs and 21 overs and conceded 93 runs and 119 runs respectively.

New Zealand while batting were able to score only 209 runs. Southee was the top scorer for them with 73 runs off 49 balls with five fours and six sixes. The wicketkeeper-batter Tom Blundell was the second-highest run-getter in his side with 38 runs off 79 balls with five boundaries. For England, Stuart Broad took four wickets and 3-3 wickets were taken by James Anderson and Leech.

The hosts were given a follow-on after their disappointing performance in the first innings. At Day three stumps, after playing 83 overs in the second innings, New Zealand are 202-3 and they trail by 24 runs. Kane Williamson is batting on 25 runs and Henry Nicholls is batting on 18 runs. For the visitors, all three wickets are snapped by spinners, two by Leach and one by Root.
