The New Zealand Cricket Team has announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup, which is all set to commence in October in the host country, India. Notably, the Kiwis will be facing defending champions England on October 5 at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad to commence their journey, whereas they will be facing Pakistan on September 29 at Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad for a warm-up game.
Meanwhile, the recently announced roaster has marked the surprise inclusion of star bowler Rachin Ravindra, whereas star pacer Adam Milne and top order batter Fin Allen didn’t get the nod to make their way for the upcoming marquee event. Notably, as the line-up was announced, Black Caps head coach Gary Stead made it clear about the inclusions and omissions. The former New Zealand cricketer clarified that Will Youngs will open along with Devon Conway in the upcoming ODI World Cup owing to their magnificent performances.
New Zealand squad for ODI World Cup was unveiled in the most creative way
“We had to make a decision, ultimately, for the opening batting position and it came down Finn and Will Young. And we just felt that when we looked through what the potential game plan was looking like in India, looked at the grounds, and also looked at the form of the two players as well that Young was the right guy to go with,” New Zealand coach Gary Stead said.
The squad was unveiled in the most creative way on social media, with the kids and spouses of each of the players stating their names with their New Zealand cap numbers, then describing the relationship they have with the player. The charming video quickly rose to popularity on social media, with numerous individuals praising it as “incredible” and “most creative.”
