When Virat Kohli was the captain in the past, he had a different opinion on captaincy affecting the team’s performance.

But after Rohit Sharma took over the captaincy of India, Gambhir seems to have a different opinion on captaincy affecting the team’s performance. The viral video has been from Gambhir’s opinion after India lost the series against England in 2018 by a margin of 4-1. In the series, Kohli was the highest run scorer from India and in the series. Back then, Gambhir had criticized the captaincy of Kohli.

Gambhir was of the opinion that the captaincy does affect the performance of the team. The former Indian cricketer felt that Kohli was a good batter, but not a good captain, Gambhir said that if Kohli was a good captain, he would have been able to win the series. Gambhir added that a good captain is the one who wins the series everywhere.

Change in opinion of Gautam Gambhir 

Gambhir felt that although Kohli was performing well as a batter, he could not get his team to win the series in England. Gambhir was of the opinion that a good captain need not be a good batter and vice versa. India did not have a good batting lineup in the series. Despite having a very good bowling lineup, they could not win the series in England in 2018.

India recently lost the ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia. In the tournament, Rohit was the captain of India. After the loss, Gambhir said that India is still the champion side, as they lost a one-off game against Australia. Gambhir said that one loss cannot take away the fact that India is a champion side and Rohit is a good captain. In current times, the opinion of Gambhir seems to have changed.
