Watch: Indian team meets Sir Garfield Sobers ahead of India vs WI Test Series

India will play their first Test match against West Indies which is set to be played in Barbados on July 12. The Indian team had the opportunity to connect with the greatest player of all time, Sir Garfield Sobers. The team lost to Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) final last month and will be looking to rebound following an unusual month-long vacation. This will also be the start of the 2023–25 WTC cycle for India who have enjoyed a good run in the tournament so far.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and other members of the Indian cricket squad met Sir Garfield Sobers before the first game of the series. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video on social media of Indian players approaching the renowned cricketer, shaking hands, and speaking with him. At the Kensington Oval in Barbados, the meeting uncannily took place exactly adjacent to the Garfield Sobers Pavilion.

As India’s star batsman, Virat Kohli is getting ready for the start of the next ICC World Test Championship cycle in the Caribbean, the star India batter would be eyeing a few records on the tour that includes breaking into the top five of the most run-getters list in the history of International Cricket.

Meanwhile, former India skipper and the Head coach of the Indian team Rahul Dravid was also seen introducing the young players of the squad to the legend and his supposedly wife. Introducing Gill, Dravid said “This is Shubman Gill. One of our most young and exciting batsmen.” The former West Indian player was also seen enjoying somewhat lighter moments with Kohli also.

Sir Garfield Sobers was among the most complete all-rounders that the world has ever seen. Sobers represented West Indies in 93 Tests where the veteran scored 8032 runs with an astonishing average of 57.78 with 26 centuries to his name. Sober also took 235 wickets in his Test Career which speaks about his caliber as a Test Player.
