Australia pacer Mitchell Starc gave away his shoes after winning the second Test against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. In a video that is going viral, he gave away his shoes to a fan. Early in the day, the World Test Championship 2023-25 defending champions clinched the Test series against Pakistan. In the first Test, the home team won by 360 runs.
In the second Test, the Asian side showed much more fight during the game. Bowling first, the Shan Masood-led side bowled out Australia for 318, after conceding 204 for three wickets. In reply, the Asian side was going well with 124/1. However, thanks to skipper Pat Cummins’s five-wicket haul and Nathan Lyon’s four-for, the visitors were bowled out for 264, conceding a lead of 54 runs.
In reply, the home team was reduced to 16/4 with Shaheen Afridi and Mir Hamza taking two wickets. At this stage, Mitchell Marsh and Steve Smith put together 153 runs for the fourth wicket. Late on Day Three, both batters got to Afridi and Hamza. From 187/6, the team reached 262 all-out, setting a target of 317 runs for the visitors.
Despite their best efforts, Pakistan lost the game by 79 runs at the end of Day 4. With this, they have lost the series and their wait to win a Test in Australia continues. Meanwhile, after the game, Starc gave away his shoes. Ironically, it was a Boxing Day Test. For the unversed, Boxing Day is a day in Britain in which lower-income class people are given gifts by their masters.
