Following India’s loss to Australia in the ODI Cricket World Cup final, India pacer Mohammed Shami commented on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with Team India. After the match PM Modi was being seen meeting the team members in the dressing room. PM Modi was being seen consolidating the team. The premier India speedster Shami expressed that such gestures are crucial for players, providing them with confidence.

The ODI World Cup final at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium ended in another heartbreak for Indian fans as Australia secured a six-wicket victory, extending India’s drought of Apex Cricket Board (ACC) trophies since 2014. This win marked Australia’s record-extending sixth World Cup title.

“Such gestures are important (PM Modi meeting players). When the Prime Minister encourages you after that, it gives you confidence. Because your morale is already down. It is something really different,” said Shami to the media in Amroha.

Concerning India’s defeat in the title clash, Shami acknowledged that Team India didn’t lack skill or confidence; it was simply not their day. Shami stated that they performed well overall. There was no shortage of skill and confidence. Sometimes, as a team, they can have that one bad day, which can happen anytime. That day wasn’t theirs. They lacked in execution and runs, but it didn’t affect their morale and confidence.

After India’s heartbreaking loss in the ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi uplifted the team. In a video from the Prime Minister’s Office, Rohit Sharma’s side was seen being motivated by PM Modi. He even expressed the nation’s support and recognised their hard work in the tournament.

Shami emerged as one of India’s standout performers in the World Cup. During India’s impressive campaign, which culminated in a runner-up finish to Australia and a remarkable ten-match unbeaten streak, Shami claimed 24 wickets. His wickets came in seven matches, boasting an average of 10.70 and a strike rate of 12.20, with his best bowling figures being 7/57. Shami secured three five-wicket hauls in the tournament, setting multiple bowling records, and concluded as the leading wicket-taker in the competition.
