WATCH: Rohit Sharma gets run out against Afghanistan in first T20I

India skipper Rohit Sharma is playing his first T20I game after the T20 World Cup 2022 semifinal against eventual champions, England. After the tournament, Sharma, alongside Virat Kohli was rested for the shortest format of the game. They were asked to concentrate on ODI cricket and they were the highest run-getters in the World Cup. Meanwhile, ahead of the ongoing three-match T20I series, they have made a comeback.

In the just-concluded first game against Afghanistan, Kohli took a break for personal reasons. On the other hand, Sharma led the team. he won the toss and elected to field first. The visitors had a great start as stand-in skipper Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz put together 50 runs in eight overs. From 50/0, the Blue Brigade was reduced to 57/3. At this point, former skipper Mohammad Nabi and all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai added 67 runs.

They ended up getting 158/5 at the end of the innings. For the home side, Mukesh Kumar and Axar Patel took two wickets each. Shivam Dube took one. In reply, the Men In Blue had a poor start as Sharma got run out.

Shubman Gill (23) had a good start but failed to make the most of it. Tilak Varma (26) also had a decent start but threw away his start. Wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma (31) played a cameo and Dube (60*) remained unbeaten with India winning the game by six wickets and 2.3 overs to go.

“It was extremely cold to be honest. Now I am okay. Obviously when the ball hits the tip of the finger it is a little sore. When the ball hit my fingers I couldn’t feel my fingers. (Summary) Lot of positives, especially with the ball. Wasn’t the easiest of conditions but our spinners bowled particularly well. (Angry after getting out) Honestly these things happen,” Sharma said in the post-match.
