ODI World Cup 2023: Weather update from Bangalore ahead of New Zealand vs Sri Lanka clash

The New Zealand cricket team is all set to lock horns against Sri Lanka for the ninth game of the ODI World Cup 2023, slated to take place on November 9 at M Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in Bangalore. Notably, this will be a must-win encounter for the Black Caps, as the win will fix their spot at number four in the points table for the semi-final clash against hosts India.

However, the loss can put them in trouble, as if Pakistan defeat England in their last clash, then they will be playing against India in the first semi-final game, kicking them out of the tournament. Moreover, the Kiwis had a great start as they won their first four games of the ODI World Cup 2023; however, they suffered back-to-back losses against India, Australia, South Africa, and Pakistan, which put them in trouble.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka is already out of the marquee event as the Bangladesh team beat them by three wickets in their last game. However, the Kusal Mendis-led Sri Lanka team suffered a heartbreaking and crushing loss over India on November 2 at Wankhede Cricket Stadium. They will be looking to get the win against the Kiwis to qualify for the Champions Trophy scheduled to take place in Pakistan in 2025.

Weather updates for the ODI World Cup 2023 clash between New Zealand and Sri Lanka

Meanwhile, speaking about the weather here, some sources state that there is a 66 per cent probability of thunderstorms and rain during the afternoon, which can trouble the game due to bad weather in the city. Notably, the probability of rain is expected to stay above 50% until 7:30 PM, and this is expected to increase between 1:30 and 3:30 PM.

That means that the game in Chinnaswamy Stadium could undergo yet another rain-shortened play as rain sets to spoil the party. However, if rain continues to play, then it will shatter New Zealand’s dream to reach the semi-finals and may allow the Pakistan team to book their spot in fourth place.
