What is DEXA? – All you need to know about Indian Cricket Board’s new selection criteria
The Indian Cricket Board reviewed the team’s 2022 performance on Sunday with the participation of captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid, and top selector Chetan Sharma. Discussions about the future of Indian cricket took place at the meeting, which also included Board’s Chairman Roger Binny, Secretary Jay Shah, and NCA Director VVS Laxman.
Following the meeting, the Board made a number of announcements, including changes to the selection criteria and workload management concerns.
The “Yo-Yo” Test returned to the Indian team, and “DEXA” was also made public as one of the selection criteria. According to a statement, both are “applied in the personalized roadmaps of the central pool of players.”
What is DEXA?
Bone density is measured using an imaging technique called DEXA (Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry). This test is used to assess bone density and can reveal whether a fracture in the bone is possible.
NCA to cooperate with the Indian T20 League franchisee to track the targeted Indian players
There are two sorts of beans produced by the scan: high energy and low energy. The bone density is determined by counting the number of X-rays that are released after each beam passes through the bone.
In the meantime, Yo-Yo Tests were discontinued by the Indian Cricket Board, earlier, due to increased player weariness while competing inside the Covid-19 bio-bubble. The test returns in the Indian squad because there are no longer any bio-bubbles in place.
In addition, the Board stated that it will assess the workloads of “selected players” in collaboration with the Indian T20 League franchises. The decision was made with the ODI World Cup in October-November 2023 in mind, which would be hosted by India.
The NCA would cooperate with the Indian T20 League franchisee to track the targeted Indian players competing in the 2023 edition of the cash-rich league, the Indian Board release stated, “keeping in mind the Men’s FTP and preparations for the-over World Cup in 2023.”
A new regulation was also imposed by Board for young players. A note from the Indian Cricket Board statement briefing the review meeting stated that “the rising players will have to play a considerable domestic season to be eligible for selection to the national squad.”
