‘What sort of a coach is Saqlain Mushtaq?’ – Ex-Pakistan batter slams head coach after Pakistan’s poor show against England
Hosting England for a Test series almost after 17 years, Pakistan is already down and out of the series as they have lost the first two matches one-sided. The Pakistan Cricket Team and its management have been facing a lot of criticism since the series’ destiny was confirmed.
Former Pakistan Test batter and ex-chief selector and head coach Mohsin Khan lashes out at the team’s head coach Saqlain Mushtaq for telling that his side will be looking for a consolation win in the last test which would be played at the National Stadium, Karachi on Saturday, December 17, 2022.
“Instead of talking about where we are going wrong, he is now talking about a consolation win. What sort of a coach is Saqlain?” said Mohsin on a Pakistani TV channel.
Mark Wood shines in the second Test against Pakistan
Pakistan batting coach Mohammad Yousuf was also criticised after he was asked during the post-match conference about the poor form of vice-captain and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan so far in the series, and the former Pakistan cricketer said he had “no role in selection matters”. Ex-Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi wasn’t impressed with Yousuf’s reasoning.
“I think it was not a great answer from Yousuf and I feel Rizwan needs to be given a break and rested and Pakistan should bring in Sarfaraz Ahmed in his place for Test matches,” said Afridi on a TV channel.
England speedster Mark Wood snapped four wickets which helped the Three Lions to a 26-run win Monday in the second Test in Multan and take an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the three-match Test series.
Wood finished with 4/65 as Pakistan was bundled out for 328 about 50 minutes after lunch on day four, having set a mammoth 355-run target. The pacer missed the first Test due to hip injury in England which they won by 74 runs at Rawalpindi. He turned the match in England’s favour with the wickets of Mohammad Nawaz (45) and Saud Shakeel (94) in the space of 12 balls and one run.
