‘Wicket dena ho to hum se seekho’- Fans troll Pakistan as they collapse in last session of Day 3 vs New Zealand
The third day’s play of the ongoing second Test between Pakistan and New Zealand started with the hosts batting in response to New Zealand’s 449. They resumed their innings from 154/3 with opener Imam-Ul-Haq batting on 74 runs and left-hand batter Saud Shakeel not out on 13 runs. Pakistan finished the third day with a score of 407/9.
The top performer for the hosts on Day 3 was Saud Shakeel. Besides, the likes of Imam ul-Haq and Sarfaraz Ahmed also made notable contributions with the bat. Both the batters built up a partnership of 83 runs before the left hand opener was dismissed for 83. He was sent back to the dressing room by opponent skipper Tim Southee.
After Imam’s departure, Sarfaraz and Shakeel handled the ship for the hosts. Both the batters smacked a partnership of 150 runs and took the hosts’ score to 332/5 before Sarfaraz was sent back to the pavilion after a brilliant score of 78 runs. He was sent back by an all-rounder Daryl Mitchell.
Saud Shakeel – A lone warrior at the end of Day 3
From 332/5 to 397/9, the Pakistan side lost 4 wickets in quick succession and was able to score only 65 runs during that period of time. Shakeel was keeping one end intact while on the other side, the other players were coming and going.
For Blackcaps, the pick of the bowlers was left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel with three wickets.
On the other hand, at the end of Day 3, for Pakistan, the star performer was Shakeel, who is still on the crease after scoring marvelous and valuable innings of 124 runs from 336 balls with 17 boundaries. Along with him is the right-arm leggie Abrar Ahmed and the hosts still trail by 42 runs with only a wicket in hand.
On Day 4, where one side Babar Azam-led Pakistan will try to reduce the deficit, while on the other side, Kiwis will look to bundle out them as soon as possible in order to take the lead and give a respective total to chase as there only two days left in the Test match.
