‘Winning the WTC is most important’ – Ace India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin speaks about missing out WTC finals against Australia

Star India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin created havoc while bowling in the first Test against the West Indies. With his amazing bowling performance, Ashwin helped India restrict the hosts to a mere 150 runs in the first innings. Ashwin bowled really well as he collected his 33rd five-wicket haul.

After an amazing performance, Ashwin spoke about missing the World Test Championship finals and how he was prepared for it. “As a cricketer, when you have a shot at a WTC Final, to sit out is fine. For me, it was How do I respond and how do I make sure the dressing room is up and about?” Ashwin said.

“Winning the WTC Final is the most important thing, and it could have been a very high point in my career, and I could have played a good role in it, but it was just unfortunate that it didn’t pan out, and the first day left us too far behind in the shed.”

“But what is the difference between me and another person that is going to sulk (about being dropped)? All I would like to give my teammates and India cricket as a whole is some understanding and my best efforts on the field, and that is where I would like to leave it,” said the off-spinner.

Ravichandran Ashwin completes 700 international wickets

Ashwin concluded with 5/60 from 23.5 overs against the West Indies, his seventh five-wicket haul against the Caribbean nation. He was also the first Indian to dismiss a father-son combination in Test cricket, taking the wicket of Tagenarine Chanderpaul, the son of West Indies star Shrinivane Chandrapaul.

Ashwin also became the third Indian bowler to take more than 700 wickets in international cricket. He joined Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh on the prestigious list. Ashwin has 477 Test wickets, 151 ODI wickets, and 72 T20I wickets. Notably, at the end of Day 1, India was well settled with 80 runs without losing a wicket. The team would like to continue their dominance in the ongoing Test.
