‘Wow, the powerful team’ – Fans react as Indian Cricket Board announces squad for Asia Cup ODI 2023

The great day for Indian fans has finally arrived as the Indian Cricket Board’s new chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, has announced the squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, which is all set to commence on August 30 in Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Notably, the Men in Blue will be playing all their matches in Sri Lanka, as they refused to travel to Pakistan due to political tensions between the two countries.

Notably, the squad has marked the comeback of star batters KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer. In addition, LSG kipper KL Rahul sustained an injury during the IPL match against RCB, while star middle order batter Shreyas Iyer’s got injured during the fourth Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy in February. Moreover, both batters had to miss the IPL, the World Test Championship Final, the recently concluded West Indies tour, and the ongoing Ireland campaign.

Hardik Pandya is retained as vice captain for Team India in the Asia Cup

Furthermore, the comeback of great batters Iyer and Rahul will be a major boost for Rohit Sharma’s side as the team faces issues in the middle order. In addition, there were speculations about Jasprit Bumrah as the vice captain, but the squad revealed that the star all-rounder Hardik Pandya will serve as a deputy to Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. Moreover, India star pacer Prasidh Krishna also got a place in the team owing to his great bowling spells against Ireland.

Meanwhile, Indian Cricket Board Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar hailed India’s star opener Shikhar Dhawan for his contribution to Team India. However, the former India cricketer says there is no place for the southpaw as Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Shubman Gill are preferred openers for the team. “Shikhar Dhawan has been terrific for India, but currently Rohit Sharma, Gill and Kishan are our 3 preferred openers,” Ajit Agarkar said.
