WPL 2024: Everything you need to know about marquee event

The Women’s Premier League (WPL 2024) will begin its second edition on February 23. Notably, in the first match, which is between the Delhi Capitals, the WPL Edition 1 finalists, will take on the defending champions, the Mumbai Indians. Additionally, 22 matches in all are set to begin at 7:30 p.m. IST at different venues this year.

Meanwhile, the first game is expected to begin on February 23 at Bangalore’s M. Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium. Notably, the Delhi Capitals suffered a loss against the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians in the WPL 2023 final match played at DY Patil Cricket Stadium.

How many teams play in the WPL 2024?

Like the year 2023, 2024 WPL will have only five teams. However, they are Mumbai Indians Women, Delhi Capitals Women, Royal Challengers Bangalore Women, UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants.

When does WPL 2024 begin?

WPL 2024 will get underway from February 23 (Friday) onwards. Notably, the first match will be played between last year’s finalists, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. However, the final will be played on March 17 (Sunday) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.

However, there will be no double-headers this time, and all the matches will begin at 7.30 PM IST.

Where will the matches be played?

Notably, it was decided that Bengaluru and Delhi would host the entire tournament between them.

How are the finalists decided?

The team that finishes at the top of the table progresses to the final. Meanwhile, the winner of the No. 2 vs No. 3 game (the Eliminator) progresses to the final, where they will take on the table-toppers.

Who finished where in the last season?

In the inaugural edition of the WPL, Delhi Capitals finished on top of the table and made it to the final, while Mumbai Indians (2) beat UP Warriorz (3) in the Eliminator at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai.

Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Giants finished fourth and fifth on the points table, respectively.
