‘Yahi din dekhna reh gya tha ab’ – Fans react as India lose to West Indies in second ODI by 6 wickets

West Indies skipper Shai Hope produced an unbeaten knock of 63 runs, which defeated India by six wickets in their second ODI at Barbados to keep alive the three-match series. Earlier, the West Indies skipper won the toss and invited the visitors to bat first. After being put to bat first, the Men in Blue had a terrific start with a great partnership between Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill. Ishan had yet again hit his half-century featuring six boundaries and a six.

India found itself in a good position as Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan combined for 90 runs for the first wicket. However, once the partnership broke up, India could not continue that momentum. Shubman Gill departed for 34 runs, and later Ishan Kishan was dismissed by Alick Athanaze for 55 runs. Team India could only manage to post 181 runs for the home team before getting all out.

The likes of Sanju Samson (9), Hardik Pandya (7), and Axar Patel (1) all scored single-digit runs. Notably, Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson, and Suryakumar Yadav fell short of expectations as India’s batsmen and bowlers failed to impress despite playing against the fragile West Indies.

Later, while chasing, the home team were looking into a great position as Kyle Mayers had smashed 36 runs from just 28 balls, but later, as he dismissed, the Windies skipper took charge and guided his team to victory with an unbeaten 63 off 80 balls, and Keacy Carty struck a crucial 48* off 65 balls that allowed West Indies to win the 182-run chase in 36.4 overs.

“See, we didn’t bat like we were supposed to. The wicket played a lot better than the last one. But it’s just that I think barring Shubman, everyone played their shot and kind of got out or hit the fielder directly, and yeah, disappointing, but at the same point of time, many, many more things to learn,” skipper Pandya said during the post-match presentation.
