‘Ye acha decision hai’ – Fans react to reports of Jasprit Bumrah becoming Rohit Sharma’s deputy for Asia Cup 2023

According to The Times of India’s reports, India star pacer Jasprit Bumrah will replace Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya as vice-captain for the upcoming Asia Cup that is all set to take place on August 30 in Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Notably, the Men in Blue will be playing all their matches in Sri Lanka, as they refused to travel to Pakistan due to political tensions between these two countries.

Notably, earlier, the great all-rounder Hardik Pandya was named as a deputy for Rohit Sharma’s side, but recent sources claim that Mumbai Indian’s bowler is ahead of Hardik Pandya. In addition, the 29-year-old pacer was also the captain during the Test match in 2022 against England, whereas the great seamer was vice-captain in ODIs during the South Africa tour.

Don’t be surprised if you see Jasprit Bumrah being made ODI deputy to Rohit Sharma: Reports

“If you look in terms of leadership seniority, Bumrah is ahead of Pandya as he captained the Test team in 2022. He has also been ODI vice-captain before Pandya during the ODI tour of South Africa,” Indian Cricket Board source was quoted by news agency PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Moreover, the sources say that there is nothing shocking about the news of Bumrah serving as deputy at the upcoming Asia Cup and World Cup.

“Don’t be surprised if you see Bumrah being made ODI deputy to Rohit for both Asia Cup and World Cup. There is a reason why he was handed the captaincy in Ireland instead of Ruturaj,” the source added.

Meanwhile, it is reported that the Indian Cricket Board will announce the Asia Cup squad likely on August 21. In addition, the new chief selector is all set to conduct a meeting with head coach Rahul Dravid and skipper Rohit Sharma in New Delhi on Monday to select the 17-member squad for the Asia Cup.

“Bangladesh and Pakistan have picked 17-member squads but they are travelling between Pakistan and Sri Lanka unlike India,” said a source.
