‘Ye Delhi Capitals, IPL main roar kab karega?’ – Fans react to fantastic win 31-run for PBKS over DC in IPL 2023

Punjab Kings (PBKS) squad travelled to Delhi to face Delhi Capitals (DC), with both teams needing a win to stay alive in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. A loss for the home side meant that they would become the first team to bow out of the competition this year.

DC skipper David Warner won the toss and decided to field first and that decision proved to be crucial as his side was able to take three major wickets of the opposition within the powerplay itself. Punjab Kings came under a lot of strain after losing these three crucial wickets during the powerplay and required a spectacular innings to save them.

After a sluggish start by scoring 27 runs from 30 balls, Prabhsimran Singh not only provided the needed output but also stood out in the visitors’ otherwise dismal batting scorecard. The next-highest scorer, Sam Curran, had only 20 runs to his name, while as much as five batters were knocked out for single-digit totals. There was some assistance for the spinners, but DC seemed to be the favourable side since the dew might have entered the picture, as it did in the match against RCB.

Taking a look at the Delhi Capital’s chase against the Punjab Kings

DC raced off to an explosive start, scoring 69 runs in only 6.1 overs without losing any wickets. They appeared to be headed for an early conclusion, but the addition of spin following the powerplay turned the tide against the home squad. Simply put, they were unable to find a way out of the web that Harpreet Brar, as well as Rahul Chahar, were weaving.

The pair shared six wickets for 46 runs in eight overs, which was where Delhi Capitals absolutely fell apart. Even though there was plenty of spin and turn available and that had the Delhi batsmen bouncing all over the place, Delhi’s shaky start made it seem like they lacked game awareness and collapsed like a house of cards while also performing some appalling footwork.

In the end, Delhi Capitals lost eight wickets and fell short of the target by 31 runs. Punjab Kings have momentum now on their side as the tournament nears its business end. They would be hoping for wins in their upcoming matches against today’s opposition and high-flying Rajasthan Royals. Delhi Capitals with this loss, have now become the first team to get knocked out of this competition and would look to rack up a couple of wins in their last two games.
