‘Ye Hardik to nam Matra ka captain hai’ – Fans react as Hardik Pandya forgets his team’s combination at toss in season opener against Chennai
The 16th season of the Indian T20 League is finally here. The defending champions Gujarat are taking on the Chennai franchise in the ongoing opening match of the season at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The season started with a bang with an opening ceremony where celebrities like Rashmika Mandanna, Tamanna Bhatia, and Arijit Singh appeared and entertained the crowd with their energetic performances.
After that, a funny instance took place during the toss featuring Hardik Pandya. The Gujarat skipper won the toss and elected to bowl first without thinking for a second. After that, Ravi Shastri asked Pandya about his team combination for the opening game to which he replied, ‘I don’t know.’ Fans have been trolling him for this across social media.
Pandya also heaped praise on the Chennai skipper MS Dhoni during the toss and expressed his feeling about playing a tournament opener against his team.
“I think almost everyone in the country has got motivation from him. Been a fan and admirer of him. Nothing better than starting the season with Dhoni.”, he said.
Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed first fifty of the season
Talking about the ongoing match, Chennai didn’t make a great start as they lost the opener Devon Conway for 1 run at the score of 14 runs inside three overs. Mohammed Shami scalped the first wicket of the season. After that, Ruturaj Gaikwad took the charge and smashed the half-century of the season in just 23 balls.
However, wickets kept falling on the other end as Rashid Khan dismissed Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes. Post that, Joshua Little sent Ambati Rayadu back to the pavilion. Gaikwad is still at the crease and Chennai have scored more than 100 runs inside 13 overs with the loss of 4 wickets.
