‘Ye kya ho gaya bhaijaan’ – Fans react as Afghanistan wins their first-ever series against Pakistan

After losing the first T20I by 6 wickets, Pakistan locked horns against Afghanistan in the second T20I match on Sunday, March 26 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Afghanistan won the match by seven wickets and their left-arm seamer Fazalhaq Farooqi for his brilliant bowling performance.

Pakistan’s stand-in skipper Shadab Khan won the toss and elected to bat first. Batting first, the hosts were able to score only 130 runs with the loss of six wickets in their 20 overs. The highest scorer for them was left-arm spin all-rounder Imad Wasim, who scored a knock of unbeaten 64 runs off 57 balls with three fours and two sixes. Shadab also scored crucial 32 runs from 25 balls, which included three fours for his side.

The star bowler for the visitors was Farooqi, who snapped two wickets in his spell of four overs and conceded only 19 runs in his spell. A one-one wicket each was grabbed by Naveen-ul-Haq, Rashid Khan, and Karim Janat as they conceded 26 runs, 16 runs, and 13 runs, respectively.

While chasing a target of 131 runs, the Afghanis chased down the target in the last over of the innings. The highest run-scorer for them was their wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who scored 44 runs off 49 balls with two fours and a six.

Ibrahim Zadran and Najibullah Zadran also played crucial knocks for their side. Where Ibrahim scored 38 runs from 40 balls with three fours, Najibullah scored 23 runs off 12 balls with two fours and a six. Mohammad Nabi scored 14 runs from 9 balls with one massive hit

“Would like to congratulate everyone back home. A special moment for us. I tried to use the new ball. If it’s swinging, I look to attack and take wickets. Pakistan is a very strong team. It’s always a proud moment to win a match and win a series,” the 22-year-old asserted in the post-match presentation after receiving the Player of the Match award.
