ODI World Cup 2023
‘Ye right arm quick wicket bhi leta hai’ – Fans react Virat Kohli takes wicket after nine years in ODI cricket against the Netherlands in ODI World Cup 2023
Virat Kohli can do no wrong in this World Cup as he has been firstly brilliant with the bat as well as in the field. Kohli’s exceptional form continues as he not only shines with the bat but also makes an impact with the ball. In the 2023 World Cup, Kohli displayed remarkable all-round skills, securing two centuries and four half-centuries. Adding to his achievements, Kohli claimed his first wicket of the tournament by dismissing Netherlands captain Scott Edwards in the 25th over during India’s final group game. The Indian team set a formidable target of 411, courtesy of brilliant centuries from Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul. Kohli’s multifaceted contributions are proving instrumental in India’s impressive campaign in the tournament.
Coincidentally, the legendary bowler’s most recent wicket in international cricket was in any major tournament, specifically during the 2016 T20 World Cup semi-final against West Indies. In a recent match, on Sunday, Kohli claimed a wicket in his second over, although it wasn’t a delivery designed for wickets. The ball bowled down the leg side and had Netherlands captain Scott Edwards opted not to play, it would have been declared a wide.
The wicketkeeper batter aimed for a simple shot behind the wicketkeeper but failed to connect perfectly, resulting in a faint edge that travelled to KL Rahul. Rahul, positioned behind the stumps, made no errors, providing Kohli with a breakthrough in the Dutch innings. After the dismissal, Kohli couldn’t contain a chuckle, glancing up towards his wife Anushka Sharma, who also shared a laugh with him.
Virat Kohli is the leading run-scorer in the tournament so far
Before his dismissal, Kohli showcased a formidable performance, scoring a robust 51 runs in India’s innings. Although he appeared poised for a potential record-breaking 50th ODI century, Kohli’s innings was cut short as he attempted a cut shot against Roelof van der Merwe, missing the connection between bat and ball and getting bowled.
Despite the dismissal, Kohli’s knock ensured he reclaimed the top spot as the leading run-scorer in the 2023 World Cup, accumulating 594 runs in nine innings. India has already secured a spot in the semi-finals of the 2023 World Cup and is set to face New Zealand in the knockout match on November 15. The semi-final clash will unfold at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where India clinched their last World Cup title more than 12 years ago.
